Giant Post Oak

This post oak is estimated to be more than 250 years old. Measuring 42 inches across at chest height and standing about 55 feet tall, it is a living remnant of the Eastern Cross Timbers.

When this tree was a sapling, the land that would become Arlington was open prairie and forest, home to Native peoples and early settlers. By the time Arlington was founded in 1876, this oak was already a towering presence. Imagine all it has seen as the city grew around it.
