Discover O.S. Gray Natural Area
Discover some of the things you’ll see in the park:
-
Giant Post Oak
This post oak is estimated to be more than 250 years old. Measuring 42 inches across at chest height and standing about 55 feet tall, it is a living remnant of the Eastern Cross Timbers.
-
Pecan Imprints
Throughout the park you’ll find imprints in the concrete walking path with the outlines of the leaf shapes of all six varieties of pecans developed by O.S. Gray - GraTex, GraKing, GraZona, GraBohls, GraPark Giant, and GraCross.
-
Invasive Plants
Invasive species are plants or animals that don’t belong here. They spread quickly, take over the land, and push out native plants and animals. Volunteers continually work to remove invasive plants, such as privet, from our park.
-
Little Bluestem Patch
Nestled in Rosser’s Woodland is a patch of little bluestem, unique in its location in the middle of the city. Typically, little bluestem is found along roadsides or in rural areas. The Friends of O.S. Gray are dedicated to preserving this distinctive and special feature of the park.
